The special silicon probe catheter is a triple lumen, latex-free catheter that is well-tolerated by the organism; it is made of silicone (polysiloxane) with the hardness value of Shore-A 60
The perfectly symmetrical molecular structure of polysiloxane and the hardness value of Shore A 60 – which also applies to car tires for example – ensure a uniform expansion behaviour of the balloon. The water-filled or air-filled balloon (7–10 cm³) thus shows almost identical radii.
In this catheter form, the material polysiloxane with its hardness value of Shore A 60 is particularly gentle on tissue.
The special silicone probe catheter is used during a HDR (High Dose Rate) brachytherapy with a dose rate of 12 Gy/h (internal radiation therapy) for the direct treatment of the following tumors:
